Custom Bag Manufacturing Process — Step by Step from Design to Delivery
Your complete guide to the bag manufacturing process step by step. Understand each stage — from design to delivery — so you know what to expect when working with a custom bag factory.
Design & Concept Development
Every custom bag starts with your vision. You provide sketches, reference images, or a detailed spec sheet. Our in-house design team translates your concept into a production-ready tech pack — a technical document that includes flat drawings (front, back, side), a Bill of Materials (BOM), dimensions, seam types, hardware specs, and branding placement. This is the blueprint for everything that follows.
Timeline: 1-3 days for simple designs, 3-7 days for complex designs.
Material Sourcing & Selection
Based on your tech pack, we source fabrics, zippers, buckles, webbing, foam, thread, and packaging materials. You can choose from our existing material library (faster, lower MOQ) or request custom materials. We send free material swatches so you can feel the fabric, check the color, and verify quality before production begins. For eco-friendly projects, we source GRS-certified RPET, organic cotton, and FSC-certified paper.
Timeline: 1-3 days for stock materials, 7-15 days for custom-dyed fabrics.
Sampling & Prototyping
This is the most critical stage for new designs. Our sample room creates a pre-production sample (PPS) that matches your tech pack exactly. You review the sample — checking materials, stitching quality, logo placement, size, and functionality. Most projects go through 1-2 sample rounds. Once approved, this becomes the “golden sample” — the reference standard for mass production.
Timeline: 5-7 days per sample round. Complex designs: 7-10 days.
Pattern Making & Cutting
Approved patterns are digitized and laid out on fabric using CAD software to minimize waste. Fabrics are cut using automated cutting machines or manual cutting for complex curves. Each cut piece is labeled and sorted by size and color, ready for the sewing line.
Quality check: Cut pieces are inspected for accurate dimensions before moving to sewing.
Printing & Logo Application
Your logo is applied before or during assembly, depending on the method. Screen printing — screens are created, colors mixed to Pantone specs, and printed panel by panel. Embroidery — design is digitized, thread colors matched, and embroidered onto fabric panels. Heat transfer, rubber patches, and metal badges are applied after the bag is assembled. Woven labels and hang tags are attached during final finishing.
Sewing & Assembly
Skilled workers assemble your bags on production lines. Each station handles a specific task: attaching panels, sewing zippers, installing foam padding, stitching straps, adding lining, and attaching hardware. Stitch density (SPI — stitches per inch) is controlled to spec. Reinforced stitching is applied at stress points (strap attachments, bottom corners). This is where craftsmanship determines durability.
Quality Control — Multi-Stage Inspection
Quality control is not a single step — it runs through the entire process. IQC (Incoming QC): Raw materials inspected upon arrival. IPQC (In-Process QC): Random checks during cutting, printing, and sewing. FQC (Final QC): Every batch inspected for stitching, logo accuracy, dimensions, zipper function, and overall finishing. We follow AQL 2.5 standards. Third-party inspection (SGS, Bureau Veritas) is welcome.
See our Quality Certifications Guide for details on standards.
Packing & Global Shipping
Finished bags are folded (or stuffed with paper to maintain shape), placed in poly bags, and packed into export-grade cartons. Each carton is labeled with product details, quantity, and destination. We arrange shipping per your preferred Incoterms: FOB (we deliver to port), CIF (we cover freight + insurance to destination port), or DDP (door-to-door including duties). Sea freight: 25-40 days. Air freight: 5-10 days.
See our Shipping Guide for detailed logistics information.
